Although the names of the other people listed in the 1850 and 1860 census reports, who were living in the household of John & Elvira Barlow are shown here as their "children", it is likely that due to the wide age difference between John & Elvira, some of the older children (Nancy M., etc.) were by a 1st wife and not by Elvira. And while Nancy M., could have been John's daughter, she could also have been a niece or a daughter-in-law. Some of the younger children may even have been grandchildren. Until further documentation can be found that will clearly identify some of these individuals, we will continue to list them as John & Elvira's children.

* Although the John Barlow family group is closely related to the William Henry Barlow (Barlar) lineage, and despite the fact that both families lived in the same area - at times, in the same county - it appears that very few of the descendants of the two families ever knew of the other's existence. To date, there has been no clear reason as to why this was so.
